1. How My Small Business Run’s itself – Part 3

A Business Designed to Create Profit on Autopilot

The secret to making more money in your business is implementing marketing and business growth strategies to run on autopilot. McDonald created procedures that works for all the francise all over the world. There system has failed. They are the biggest fast food joint in the world.

So, as run you business on a day to day basis, I want you take note of the steps you took to implement that marketing strategy and the results. Think of yourself as an archaeologist. Prepare yourself to dig deep. And be on the lookout for way to improve the way you work.

Here are list of areas I think you need to run on autopilot:

Sales Procedures – Converting Prospects to Clients

What are the steps you take to closing sales with a prospect? What are the key words, phrases or approaches that make a profound difference in the way you close the sales?

When you first meet up with a client, what is the first thing you did. Did you smile and asked your welcoming question? You need a step by step way to closing the sales with clients.

Starting today, experiment with combining your best techniques and create procedures for the “best sales techniques” that works effectively at turning your prospects into paying clients.

Also look at other companies in your industry and those outside yours for ideas to improve your sales procedures.

Ongoing Contact Procedures – Contact and Educate Your Clients More Often

Do your existing clients know how they can benefit from all the products and services you offer? The longer a client can work with you or use your products the more benefit they can experience with you.

Are you sending your client valuable information about how they can make the most of the products or services they’re already using and the benefits they can get from taking advantage of other products and service you’re offering? You need to educate your clients about you unique services and offer discounts or good bonuses.

To be consistent with following up with existing clients, create procedures to follow up with them using mail, email, phone, seminars, copies of publicity printed about your business, articles written by you, audio CDs, radio interviews, DVDs or television videos interviews to provide the maximum benefits to your clients and to maximize your sales.

Also consider creating procedures for contacting and educating your strategic alliances. When you have an educating procedure in place to educate them on the unique values your product and service can offer and who you will like to work with, they will send you qualified referrals.

Referral Procedures – Increasing Word Of Mouth

If you’re like most small businesses most of your clients comes from referrals. If getting referrals is so effective why not implement a referral system to make it easy to ask for referral. It also makes it easy for your raving fans to send you highly qualified prospects?

Make it a necessity to ask your existing clients for referrals. Referral is an inexpensive method of getting more clients.

Implement procedure to offer gifts to those that refer, and gift new prospects too, so that they can give referrals too.

You can use postcards, email, or give gift certificates to get referrals; your clients can give it to potential clients.

Create a procedure on how and when to ask for referrals also implement new ways of giving incentives refers.

Marketing Procedures – Identify Centers of Influence

You can get more clients when you identify centre of influences that can send you a steady stream or even a great flood of clients?

Try identifying 100 key centers of influence that can send you highly qualified clients and educate these centers of influence about the benefits of your unique product or service.

You can allow them to try your product or service or you can simply engage in educating them by contacting them every month or so based on whatever technique produces the best results in getting them to endorse your product or service to their valuable contacts. Once you have their trust you should make it very easy and profitable for them to send you referrals – usually by providing a very favorable deal to anyone they refer to you. Contact those small business owners that have an audience that need your product or service.

Create a step by step system on how and when you will be contacting them. What information’s will be sent to them and in what order. You also need to have a system in place for rewarding those that refer.

Joint Venture Procedures – Joint Ventures to Attract Clients

There are other businesses out there that are willing to endorse you product and service. Do you have a system in place to seek out joint ventures with other non-competing businesses who already sell products or services related to yours? These joint venture partners have already built a trusting relationship with their clients.

Create procedures for seeking out non-competing businesses with a client base that needs your product and services. Also create policies around the kinds of businesses you’re willing to do business with and the kind of commissions you’re willing to give.  

Create a step by step system on how your joint venture approach and sell to their clients. Create sales letters or a series of letters endorsed by the business you are venturing with? Create some strategies you know works, so you can get better results when they promote your products and services.  

Create procedures based around what works and analyze, innovate and improve these procedures regularly to multiply your results.

Up Selling Procedures – Increasing Profits by Increasing Size of Sales

Can you add on complimentary products and services?  Try recommending another product or service that compliments what the clients has already bought by up selling at the point of sale.

Can you package products or services in a unique way with a higher perceived value and much greater net profit for your business?

Create procedures to package what you offer to sell particular prospects. Enticing packages that increases sale. Best scripts for creating and closing a sale.

What words or phrases work best to make an up sell? What are the most effective words and phrases to improve customer satisfaction and reduce post purchase remorse?

Again look at asking for referrals as part of this process or offer inducements for your clients to give you referrals of qualified clients. Experiment with and create procedures for all these tasks.

I wasn’t there but I had to watch Barack Obama’s Inauguration. It’s the most inspiring moment of my life. Even though I watched it live on CNN, I still had to watch it a few more time.

After watching it, it was the first time that I felt that anything is possible when you set your mind at it.

Homemade Milkshakes: Ever made a milkshake in a blender, only to realize when you try to pour it out that half of your milkshake is still inside, coating every surface?  I’ve been making a lot of protein milkshakes this summer, and as a woman that just gave birth I am not pleased to have to sacrifice any of my chocolate ice cream to the blender!  Luckily we’ve got a hand blender, the kind that is basically a stick with a blender blade on the bottom, and can be placed directly into a glass.  You don’t end up losing much ice cream at all. Priceless.

Body Pillow. I have the usual aches and pains associated with my pregnancy. Although, I still wake up with aches and pains, I can’t imagine how much worse it would actually be without a body pillow. Some buy special (read: more expensive) pillows that are labeled special for maternity, but I have never made the splurge.

Google Reader. This is a great tool and so much fun to use! No more will I lose track of all those great crafty blogs that I keep meaning to check on. Oh no, Gmail and Google are the master of invention and have made it super easy. Best of all, I can share fun blogs with my “friends”. Okay, so right now, that just consists of my sister, but it’s still fun.

<b>Crocs Athen Sandals.</b> They’re flip flops. And they’re super comfortable – even when pregnant, heck, especially when pregnant. I’ve worn them all summer. Especially as the humidity has effected my poor feet and swelling has taken place. I’ve even walked around the Oakland Zoo and the Cleveland Metro Parks Zoo while wearing them. Way more comfortable than even a great pair of tennis shoes for me.

Salads as lunches: I’ve been lazy to cook hot meals, and sandwiches get boring quickly.  One of my favorite alternatives is a meal-sized salad.  Besides some of the regular salad veggies, such as tomatoes, carrots, onions, or cucumbers, you can use some nutrient-rich beets or spicy radishes.  Of course, to really be satisfying a salad needs some heartiness and protein.  As i don’t like chicken, I add some bacon or tuna fish instead and or I put in a couple of different varieties of beans, but either way works.  It may seem odd at first, but grains are also great addition!  Quinoa is most protein-packed grain, is cooked the exact same way as rice, and is still good cold on salad.  I like to make some ahead of time in the rice maker so I can take it straight from the fridge and mix it into my salad greens.  If quinoa is a little out there for you, couscous (a tiny pasta) is another option for adding some carbs.  Mix it with some warm broth, let it sit a few minutes, and sprinkle it in the salad.  Top the whole thing with your favorite salad dressing, and you might just get out of your lunch rut.

Happy New Year

Last year was a challenging year for me. I had to joggle being e new mum and running my business. Oh boy what a challenge indeed.

In June 10th i gave birth to my little girl Zaina. She’s a little wonder.

Beacause of her i had to make a lot of changes in business to spend time with her.

Last year I wasn’t proactive enough. I spent most of the time learning new ways to grow my business but had no time to implement it.

So this year ‘am moving forward in my business by implemting most of the things that have learnt, so look forward to great things.  

To move forward I need to talk about the mistakes I’ve made

What Mistakes?

1.  Develop systems sooner: If I had to do it over, I would’ve started my blog sooner. I had a lead generation site that was getting subscribers but the list was not responsive. I kept sending them emails with just a 20% open rate because of that I wasn’t able to get my programs sold. It was difficult for me to have my programs full. If I had known I would have started blogging sooner. I get people signing up for me RSS frequently and these subscribers read my post.  I created pillar articles that got featured on popular bloggers and this had lead to an increase in readers.
2.  Outsourced task sooner: One of the issues that affect’s a lot of small business owners is that they try to do too much on their own because of the cost associated with outsourcing or they think they can do it more better. Well what I’ve notice over the years is that the sooner you outsource task that are not directly related to the money the better. Your goal should be to be more efficient in our business, because when we are efficient we increased our income dramatically.

I’m sure there are others, but that’s ok. Nobody’s perfect, but I will continue to strive for perfection. 

1. Make Daily Goals – Whenever I do this for my business, I end up being much more effective. I plan on doing that  much more in 2009.
2. Double my income for 2009- By creating more programs and packages. I believe that there will be an income explosion 2009.  
3. Outsource more – I’m enjoying what I do right now, but it can get quite tedious. Since working with Fabienne Frederickson, I’ve outsourced much more than I normally would. I have hired an virtual assistant and a personal assistant. In 2009, I hope to hire another virtual assistant that can help with managing my programs and most of my business operations.
4. Help more people – This has been the most rewarding part of what I do. When I get messages from people letting me know how much they’ve benefited from what I do, it gives me the energy to continue.
5. Pay off all my debt – In comparison to many others, I guess my debt isn’t that huge. But by the end of the year, I would like to pay off my car, credit cards and personal loans. I’ve already paid off a significant amount but there is still more to get rid off. I believe I can be debt free by the end of 2009.
6. Post more often to my blog. This year I will be doing a lot of videos. I have just got a new camera – Lumix DMC-TZ5 and this works fine in taking really cool videos.
7. Comment a bit More . To get more traffic I decided to start commenting on some popular blogs, I don’t comments enough. I try to answer people questions but I don’t get  more involved.  I need to.

   So that’s my summary of 2008 and projections for 2009. It has been great so far and I believe there is more success to come. Can wait for them to unfold.

I believe that by now Obama would have grown his list past 5 million because this articles was written in July this year.

Because he had a list, he can email his supporters to vote with a click of a button. He can push more people, more quickly, easily and efficiently, to take action on his behalf, than any other politician, company or individual.

So why did Obama won, it’s because HE was A GOOD MARKETER.

So let learn from Obama, if you want to know what to create a cash surge in your business. You need to have your database in order.  Compile ALL the information on your past and present clients, your prospects, PR contacts, strategic alliances, and entire sphere of influence and hub them in a common HUB, then use the information you’ve gathered to market your services.

I use ACT to manage my database and it works fantastically.

Excel is also another system but it has limited capabilities to maintain a database, It a basic tool for organizing basic info about your contacts.

But it’s far better to start with that to stuff names and addresses into your desk drawer.
Being a successful marketer requires identifying and leveraging your marketing assets.

There is no better way of leveraging than leveraging your client database. These are a list of people who know, like and trust you…and could buy from you.

So, if you want to win the game of marketing – if you want to dominate your local marketplace and quickly become the “obvious expert” in your area, you MUST start with building and utilizing an actionable database.

Pay close attention to this quote from the article…
