Case Study: The Exact Method I used to Get 96 Local Small Businesses in 90 Days Flat

What I did to get these local small businesses was implement the so called “Neighbourhood Marketing” . To get well known, to get entrenched, to become the “go to gal in your niche” within that 3 mile radius is like being handed the keys to the kingdom.

I sped up the rate at which I became “known” in a fast and most direct way possible: the face to face contact.

STEPS AND ACTION TAKEN

 You will need four things:

  • Get memo / phone message pads printed up, containing my name, telephone number and website
  • A stack of my Business Abundance newsletters
  • A stack of my Get More Client Tip sheet
  • A stack of my business cards and Gift Certificates good for a free Strategic Profit Consultation

 That’s all I used to get 96 new clients in 90 days!

How I APPLIED THIS  STRATEGY

I had my assistant and I put on a pair of comfortable shoes. Because we were going to check out some of our local businesses to talk to a few businesses we know that are our target audience. We started from Monday to Friday from 10am-3pm because this was the best times to reach the owners of those businesses.

We wear a nice comfortable suit with a name tag prominently displaying “Grow Your Business Faster than Ever”.

Then we walk into local businesses including beauty salon, real estate agent, photo shop, print shops, internet cafe etc

Before we give out our free goodies we need to determination if they are the owner of that business. If not we ask to speak to the owner of the business, because they are the ones that are going to pay for our service.

If they are the business owner,  I just look them in the eyes… smile… and say the following:

“Hi, my name is Joyce Oladipo, and this is my assistant Rosie.

We help small businesses like yours get more clients and grow your business in less time, since we work with most of the business in this area,  I wanted to stop by and get my newsletter in your hands…”

I give them the newsletter, my tip sheet, a free memo pad… and a free Strategic Profit gift certificate!

Then … I shut up!

I just stand there, smiling, until they make the first move.

By handing them so many free gifts and goodies, I’ve tipped the scale of obligation so that they’ll feel morally obligated to reciprocate.

About 50% of the people I contacted asked me questions about how they can get more clients or about what I do. 10% set their appointment at the spot. 12% called in and took advantage of my Gift Certificate within the week.

I used a 2 week deadline on the Gift Certificate. The rest said “Oh, thanks! Have a good day.”

There’s only one way to screw this up…

Actually, there’s two ways.

First, everytime you go out you’ll end up scheduling about 3 or more people. This is a fact. So make sure you bring a calendar with you. (That’s what Rosie is for, and also for moral support. And maybe to hold your Starbucks, too.)

If you say, “oh just call my office on Monday. They will never call. IF THEY WANT TO USE THE GIFT CERTIFICATE ON THE SPOT, THEN SCHEDULE THEM ON THE SPOT. PERIOD!

And the second way to screw this up is… not to try this strategy! You know, in every circumstance in which I’ve had my clients go out and do this, I’ve never had one tell me that they didn’t make tens of thousands of euros. But my hardest challenge is… to get clients to go out and try this! I guess they think it’s scary or nerve-wracking…or maybe they feel they’re imposing. Keep in mind; you’re not there to sale and you’re there only to hand them free gifts.

What actually happens is, some of my clients say that people end up talking their ears off!

This becomes fun, satisfying, and financial rewarding. So my advice is…

GO out there and try this!

Final tips that can make you even more money

I’m a big believer in the use of “promotional products.” What I mean by that is giving away things like pens, fridge magnets, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and such, with your business name and phone number imprinted onto them.

Studies show these have terrific “hang around” value. People will use a cheap fridge magnet for years! Any time you can have your promotional items hanging around the house, that’s a great thing!

For instance, you can get 500 full colour fridge magnets for 100€! I think it’s a very powerful idea to hand everyone you encounter a fridge magnet. Because people will use it… and call you. For the small cost per contact vs. long term money making potential, we think it makes good sense to be handing these products out at every door.
